Installation of several different operating systems can significantly expand the capabilities of a personal computer. In order to be able to start the desired system one by one, it is necessary to correctly install these operating systems.
Necessary
- - Live CD Ubuntu;
- - Windows installation disc;
- - Grub4Dos.
Instructions
Step 1
If you have the ability to install Windows and Linux on different hard drives, you better take advantage of it. This will save you from all the problems associated with the incompatibility of different systems. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to use several hard drives at once.
Step 2
To install Windows on a hard drive that already has Linux, you need to properly prepare a new partition. Use the Gnome Partition Editor for this. It is included with most Linux Live CDs.
Step 3
Boot your computer from the specified drive. Open the System menu and select the Gnome Partition Editor program. Right-click on the graphic image of the local disk that will be divided into elements.
Step 4
Select Resize / Move from the drop-down menu. Reduce the size of your working partition by a few GB. Click the Resize and Apply buttons. As a result, you will end up with an unallocated area on your hard drive.
Step 5
Exit the Gnome Partition Editor program. Restart your computer after inserting the Windows installation disc into the drive. Install the operating system in the usual way.
Step 6
When the installer reaches the drive selection menu, select the newly created partition. Be sure to format it to FAT32 or NTFS. After the installation of the Windows system is completed, it will be it that will boot initially.
Step 7
Reinsert the Live CD for Linux. Open the Gnome Partition Editor utility. Right-click on the partition where Windows is installed. Select the Manage flags submenu. Uncheck Boot.
Step 8
Create a multiboot menu using the features of the Grub4Dos utility. This saves you the hassle of constantly booting from the Live CD and switching the boot partition.
