Windows Firewall is a built-in tool in this operating system that checks data entering over the local network and the Internet. To run applications installed on your computer, you may need to open a port.
Instructions
Step 1
If your computer is running Windows XP, double-click the icon in the Control Panel to open the Windows Firewall service. Go to the Exceptions tab and click Add Port.
Step 2
In the Add Port window, enter a description for the port in the Name field, such as the name of the game. In the line "Port number" write down the corresponding number. Select the type of network protocol: TCP or UPD. Click OK to confirm your selection.
Step 3
You can make a list of computers for which this port is unblocked. Click the "Change area" button and in a new window select the desired option: any computer, computers from the local network, or only those nodes whose IP addresses are included in a special list.
Step 4
There is another way to open the firewall. In the start menu, find the "Network Connections" item and open it by double-clicking on the icon. Right-click on the local connection or Internet connection icon to bring up the drop-down menu.
Step 5
Select the "Properties" option and in the properties window go to the "Advanced" tab. Under Windows Firewall, click Options. If you have a Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop, you can right-click on it to open the Properties window and select Properties.
Step 6
If your computer is running Windows 7, go to Control Panel and type “firewall” into the search box. Check Windows Firewall in the list. On the left side of the screen, click the "Advanced options" link.
Step 7
In the new Firewall with Advanced Security window, use the Inbound Rules link. Click the New Rule button and select the checkboxes for the new connection.
