Step 1
Take care of the security of the operating system you are using. Make sure the automatic checkpoint feature is active. Check the size of the allocated hard disk space. If you are not comfortable with using this method, create an image of the production system yourself.
Step 2
If Windows XP fails, start the safe mode of this system. Open the Start menu and expand the All Programs list. Open the "System" item in the "Standard" submenu. Go to System Restore. Select a breakpoint and click Next.
Step 3
If the system does not start in safe mode, insert the Windows XP boot disk into the drive. Turn on the laptop and hold down the F12 (F8) key. On some Acer notebook models, you must press the F2 button. Once the list of available boot options opens, select Internal DVD-Rom.
Step 4
Wait while copying specific files from disk. When the first installer menu appears, press Enter. Wait for the installed copies of Windows to be identified. Select the system you want and follow the step-by-step instructions. The recovery process in this case is very similar to the initial installation of the OS.
Step 5
For Vista and Seven systems, run the program from the disk as described above. After launching the menu with the "Install" button, follow the link "Additional recovery options".
Step 6
Select the "System Restore" function from the list provided. Specify the copy of Windows to continue working with. Select the previously created checkpoint and click Next. Wait for the computer restart process to complete.
