Quite often, users of Windows operating systems use the "event log". This application allows you to track system crashes, errors and malfunctions. Using this tool, you can perform diagnostic checks for performance, but in some cases it is not needed, so it has to be removed as an unnecessary component.

Instructions

Step 1

Not all users know about the existence of the event log in the Windows operating system. We can say that you need to study the system in depth to get to this component. Finding it is fairly straightforward, though, if you're running Windows 7 or Windows Vista. Open the Start menu, activate the search bar and enter the "Event Viewer" command. In the search results, select the first line and click on it.

Step 2

You will see the Event Viewer applet. This component is also called the Event Viewer snap-in. Before deleting the "event log", it must first be opened or created (in some cases, the log option is disabled). To open the log, click the top menu "Action", from the drop-down menu, select the item "Open saved log".

Step 3

In the "Open Saved Log" window that opens, find the "event log" file. Use the Explorer sidebar to quickly find the file you are looking for. It is worth noting that by default the system offers to open files of several extensions, of which not every one corresponds to the log. In the dialog box you will see files of the following formats - evtx, evt and etl. The evtx extension is for event files, the evt extension is for legacy event files. Etl is for the trace log files.

Step 4

After selecting the desired file, click the "Open" button in the lower right corner of the dialog box. To delete a recently opened event log, you need to go to your log. Click on the triangle icon next to the "Saved Logs" folder on the left side of the window, then "Folder with Saved Logs". This folder will contain all the logs that were generated by the system.

Step 5

Select the event log opposite which the floppy disk icon is located. Right click on the selected item. Select "Delete" from the context menu. In the window that opens, to confirm the deletion operation, click the "Yes" button.
