Necessary

  • - Partition Manager;
  • - additional computer.

Instructions

Step 1

If you have the opportunity to connect the hard drive to another computer, then carry out this process. Turn off your computer, disassemble the system unit and remove the hard drive by disconnecting two cables from it.

Step 2

Connect this hard drive to the second computer. Make sure that this PC will load the operating system from other media. Turn on the second computer. After the operating system has finished loading, copy all the required information from your hard drive to another hard drive, flash drive or USB-HDD.

Step 3

Install the hard drive back into the system unit. Turn on your computer and install a new operating system.

Step 4

If you are unable to connect the hard drive to another computer, then create an additional partition to which you can copy the required files or install a new operating system.

Step 5

Download and install the Partition Manager program. Restart your computer to complete the installation of the program. Start Partition Manager. Find the "Wizards" menu on the main panel and open it.

Step 6

Select "Create Section". Be sure to check the box next to "Advanced User Mode". Click "Next". Select a hard disk or its partition, from the free space of which a new volume will be created. Click "Next".

Step 7

Set the size of the future local disk. Please note that to install Windows 7, it is recommended to create a partition larger than 30 GB, and for Windows XP, 20 GB will be enough.

Step 8

Check the box next to "Create as logical partition". Click "Next". Select the type of file system to which the new volume will be formatted. Click the Next and Finish buttons.

Step 9

To start the process of creating a new volume, click the "Apply pending changes" button. After creating a new partition, install the OS on it or copy the required files.
