Rounding the edges of an image is often used to create decorative frames or to simulate a retro look. The rounding of the edges itself is a fairly simple operation that can be performed using Photoshop.
Necessary
- - Photoshop program;
- - image.
Instructions
Step 1
In any way convenient for you, open the picture in which you are going to round the corners in the Photoshop editor. If the program is already running, you can drag the file with the picture into the Photoshop window using the mouse. You can achieve the same result with the shortcut Ctrl + O or the Open command from the File menu.
Step 2
Make the image layer editable. This action, like many other actions in Photoshop, can be done in a variety of ways. Choose the method that is most convenient for you. You can make a layer editable by right-clicking on this layer in the layers palette and choosing the Layer from Background option.
You can duplicate the background layer with the Dublicate Layer command from the Layer menu. After that turn off the visibility of the background layer by clicking on the eye icon to the left of the layer.
Step 3
Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool from the tool palette. It can be found in the middle of the palette. The panel, which can be seen under the main menu, contains the settings for this tool. Enter a value for the radius of the corners in the Radius box. The larger this value, the more you will round the corners of your picture.
Step 4
Create a rounded rectangle layer. To do this, place the cursor on any fragment of the open image, hold down the left mouse button and drag the created shape down and to the left.
Step 5
If the shape of the corners does not suit you, undo the last action by clicking on the previous action in the History palette or by pressing the Ctrl + Z hotkeys. Decrease or increase the fillet radius and draw the rounded rectangle again.
Step 6
Resize the rectangle with the Free Transform command from the Edit menu. Keep in mind that after rounding the corners, only what is covered by the shape will remain from your image.
Step 7
Select the layer mask with the shape you just drew in the layers palette. The mask is the rectangle to the right of the layer's thumbnail. Using the mouse, drag the mask onto the image layer where you were going to round the corners.
Step 8
Delete the layer that previously had the rounded rectangle. Now it is evenly filled with the foreground color and you won't need it anymore.
Step 9
The picture with the rounded corners is ready. If you want to keep the rounded corners transparent, choose the Save As command from the File menu and save the resulting image in.
Step 10
If you need to put some kind of solid background at the corners, click on the Create a new layer button, which is located under the layers palette. Fill the created layer with any color using the Paint Bucket Tool ("Fill") and move this layer under the layer with the image with the mouse.
Step 11
Save the picture with the Save As command in.jpg"
