Most of the system software running on Windows operating systems is implemented as services (services). Their purpose is to perform various tasks in the background. Some services start automatically at system startup, while others are disabled. Many programs work on interaction with services. Therefore, sometimes, in order to ensure the possibility of launching applications, it is necessary to activate the corresponding services.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the Computer Resource Management Console. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" icon located on the desktop. Then, in the context menu that appears, select the "Control" item.

Step 2

Activate the snap-in for managing services registered on the local computer. In the left pane of the Computer Management window, expand the Computer Management (Local) section, then the Services and Applications section. Highlight the Services item. The service management interface will be displayed in the right pane.

Step 3

Find the service you want to activate. Step through the list of the Services window. Analyze the contents of the Name and Description fields. For convenience, the list can be sorted by clicking on one of the sections of its header. Select the found element of the list.

Step 4

Try to activate the selected service. Right-click on the selected item, or on the "Action" item in the main menu of the application. In the menu that appears, select the "All tasks" item, then click on the "Start" item.

Step 5

Wait until the process of starting the service is finished. In the "Service Management" dialog that appears, the progress of service activation will be displayed using a progress indicator. At the end of the process, in case of failure, a window with an error message will be displayed. If activation is successful, the "Service Management" dialog will simply be closed.

Step 6

Configure the launch parameters of the selected service, if necessary. If you intend to use the features of a service frequently, it might make sense to change its startup type so that it automatically starts every time the operating system boots. To change the type of service launch, select the "Properties" item of the context menu, or the "Action" section of the main menu. In the dialog that appears, switch to the "General" tab. In the "Startup type" drop-down list, select "Auto". Click the Apply button. Click the "OK" button.
