For some people, the ability to use a computer is a matter of prestige, while for others it is an opportunity to earn bread and butter. But, unfortunately, some people who call themselves confident PC users on their resume often cannot cope with tasks such as searching for information on the Internet or creating and editing a document at work. To avoid such situations, you need to improve your computer literacy.
Instructions
Step 1
Learn to type quickly on the keyboard. There are many different programs and techniques available to develop your touch typing skill. Choose any of them and improve. Since when working with a computer you often have to type texts, this skill will certainly come in handy for you. It is also recommended to learn keyboard shortcuts and use them at least to perform such simple actions as copying, pasting text, deleting a file, etc.
Step 2
Learn the intricacies of computer terminology. An experienced PC user should know what a file is, defragmentation, formatting, archive, operating system, antivirus software, etc. Don't call the system drive a processor and your monitor a computer. If you come across an unfamiliar term, clarify and remember its meaning.
Step 3
Learn to search for information on the Internet. Write your queries correctly: they should be short but succinct. Do not write in the search bar "use the program" or "how to use the program with which you can call another person and speak through a microphone." Better ask "how to use Skype."
Step 4
Getting acquainted with a new program for you, carefully study all its features. If you do not understand how to use it, read the manual. Do not try to master the program intuitively, pressing all the buttons in a row and hoping that this will lead to the desired result. Get used to reading reference materials: they will help you not only understand the features of a particular program, but also improve your computer literacy in general.
Step 5
Sign up for specialized courses or buy multiple lesson discs. There is another option - to hire a tutor who will help you improve your computer literacy and answer all the questions that you may have while working with a PC.
