When connecting a new device to your computer, there is often a conflict with the old one, if one of them is not deactivated. The same applies to microphones - until you turn off the built-in, the new one will not work or errors will periodically occur.
Instructions
Step 1
Connect a new microphone to the appropriate jack on your sound card, usually marked with an icon with its image. If necessary, install the software for your new device by first inserting the disc into the computer's drive and using the hardware installation wizard. It is best to restart your computer and then check for a new microphone in the device manager list; you can open it in the computer properties on the "Hardware" tab.
Step 2
Open the computer control panel, in the menu, select the item responsible for setting up sound, speech and audio devices. In the new window, select the option to configure specifically sounds and audio devices. A small window with several tabs should appear on your screen; go to the one that is responsible for the speech settings.
Step 3
In the second drop-down menu of the default voice recorder, select the one that was recently installed instead of the built-in microphone. Apply changes; if necessary, just in case, check the hardware using a special built-in utility that you can run below from the same tab. Apply and save your changes.
Step 4
Just in case, restart your computer, even if the system does not require it. After Windows starts, open the settings for the volume control of the connected audio devices; if necessary, also make the settings in the program that was installed with the drivers on the microphone.
Step 5
Open the program in which you will use the new sound device for recording speech, also do the preliminary settings there. If you will be using it for Skype calls, make a test call to a special test service - it will help you decide what configuration parameters you need to set exactly for your equipment.
