Each physical network device has a personal identifier - MAC (Media Access Control) address. It is a group of six hyphen-separated hexadecimal numbers. Each number in the group can have values from 00 to FF - in decimal, this corresponds to the range from 0 to 255. There are several ways to see the MAC address of a network device.
Instructions
Step 1
Use the Network Connection Properties component of the operating system to see the MAC address of the network card. In Windows XP, to start it, first open the main menu on the "Start" button, go to the "Settings" section and select "Network Connections". In Windows Vista and Windows 7, first launch the Control Panel from the main menu on the Start button, click the Network and Internet link, select View Network Status and Tasks. The "Network and Sharing Center" window will open, in which you must select "Manage network connections". This will give you access to the list of network connections.
Step 2
Select in the list of connections the one that belongs to the network card you need, right-click and click the "Properties" item in the context menu - this action is the same in each of the three listed operating systems.
Step 3
Click the "Details" button if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. On Windows XP, this action should be replaced by clicking the "Support" tab and clicking the "Details" button. As a result, an information window will open in each of these operating systems, where the MAC address of the network card will be written in the "Physical address" line.
Step 4
Another way is to use the ipconfig utility. It works in the command line, so first press WIN + R or select Run from the main menu. Type cmd in the input field and press Enter - this will launch the terminal of the command line emulator.
Step 5
Type ipconfig / all and press Enter. The utility will display a long list of various data, including the MAC address in the "Physical Address" line.
Step 6
The third way is to just look at the MAC address on the box of the network card. It is also knocked out on the card board. The sticker on the back of the laptop case should also have the MAC address printed on it. However, it should be borne in mind that in the current session of the equipment, this address can be reassigned.
