Modern laptop computers at home and in office conditions are usually used not as stand-alone workstations, but to work with remote computers. Most often these are servers of the global network, a little less often - other local computers. Laptops have built-in software and hardware for connecting them together, but this procedure is not very simple.

Step 1
When connecting laptops to a local network, start by preparing the hardware for this. You need to ensure data transfer from one computer to another - choose the most convenient method. One way is to use a router. Most of these devices can act as a wireless LAN access point and provide an Internet connection for all computers on the network. Almost all modern laptops can work with a router via Wi-Fi.
Step 2
Another way to connect computers is with an Ethernet wired network. Laptops are equipped with network cards, which allows them to be connected directly with a twisted pair wire. The advantage of this method is its low cost and the highest data exchange speed. And the disadvantages are that you have to deal with the cable - first take care of the correct order of connecting 8 wires to the connector, then place this cable in the room or stretch it between different rooms.
Step 3
Another option is a USB connection using another optional USB hub device. This method is more suitable for those cases when it is not necessary to combine several laptops very often. It can be used as a charger - I inserted two plugs into the connectors of two computers, worked and removed the hub.
Step 4
After the method of connection is determined, the contact of the laptops through it is established, go to the software part of the procedure. Most often, modern laptops are sold with Windows 7 Starter preinstalled. This version does not allow you to create a "home group" for computers to work together, so one of them needs to install a more advanced version of Windows 7.
Step 5
Create a "homegroup" on one of the laptops. To do this, open the main menu, type “at home” and click on the “Homegroup” link in the search results. In this way, you will start the wizard for creating this group - follow its instructions.
Step 6
Connect the second laptop to the created group. To do this, as in the previous step, start the wizard. It will automatically detect an already existing group, and you can use this application to connect to it by entering the password created during the wizard in the previous step.
