In a Microsoft Office Word document, you can apply various styles and effects to text, choose a font, how it is positioned on the page, and the spacing between lines and letters. To make one and a half (single, double, or with a strictly specified value) spacing in Word, you need to use the editor's tools.

Instructions

Step 1

The vertical distance between two lines in the text is called line spacing or line spacing. The default is Single in Microsoft Office Word documents. Depending on the selected text style, single line spacing can be used between lines of the same paragraph, and one and a half or double spacing between two different paragraphs. All of these parameters are configurable.

Step 2

To set the required spacing between lines in the text, you need to call the "Paragraph" dialog box. This can be done in several ways. Open the "Home" tab, select the text (or a piece of text) in which you want to change the spacing. In the "Paragraph" section, click on the arrow button (located in the lower right corner of the "Paragraph" panel). Another way: select the text and right-click on it, in the context menu also select "Paragraph".

Step 3

In the dialog box that opens, go to the "Indents and Spacing" tab. In the "Spacing" group and the "Line spacing" section, select the value you need using the drop-down list: single, 1, 5 lines, double, exactly or a multiplier. If you selected one of the last two values, specify in the field to the right the size of the interval in points or a numerical value for the multiplier. Click the OK button to apply the selected settings to the selected text (a piece of text).

Step 4

Different conventions are used for letter spacing. The interval can be regular, discharged and compacted. If you want to change the spacing between letters in a word, open the "Font" dialog box. You can open it from the "Home" tab from the "Font" section by clicking on the arrow button. Also, the window opens through the right mouse button when you select the "Font" item from the drop-down menu.

Step 5

In the window that opens, go to the "Interval" tab, in the group of the same name, use the drop-down list to set the value you need and click on the OK button. The interval must be set after selecting the text. If you have not started typing yet, position the cursor at the beginning of the first line of the document, adjust all the necessary parameters, and start typing without moving the cursor one position.
