Typed, but not edited text often does not look very attractive. The appearance of the text is especially spoiled by unreasonably large spacing between paragraphs or lines. There are a number of steps you need to take to reduce the line spacing in a Microsoft Office Word document.
Instructions
Step 1
First, make sure there is no extra paragraph character between the lines. Visually evaluate the text, or switch to visual display of paragraph marks and other hidden formatting characters. To do this, from the "Home" tab from the "Paragraph" section, click on the button with the "¶" icon. Extra paragraph marks will be indicated by the same “¶” symbols. They are not printed, but they allow more detailed and thorough work with the text. Remove any extra paragraph marks.
Step 2
If you want to remove too much spacing between the last line of one paragraph and the first line of the next paragraph, go to the Home tab. In the Styles section, set the style to No Spacing. If this style is not displayed in the panel, expand the section with symbols by clicking the arrow button located to the right of the thumbnail fields.
Step 3
To reduce the space between lines in a paragraph, select the desired text or piece of text. To do this, hold down the left mouse button while moving the cursor over the desired area, or use the Ctrl, Shift keys and the "right" and "left" arrow buttons. To select all the text, go to the Home tab and in the Editing section, click the Select All button.
Step 4
Go to the Page Layout tab and click on the little arrow button in the Paragraph section to open a dialog box. Alternative way: right-click in the document, select "Paragraph" from the drop-down menu.
Step 5
In the window that opens, go to the "Indents and Spacing" tab. In the "Interval" section, set the desired type of intervals (single, minimum) from the drop-down list and / or the corresponding value in the additional field when selecting the "multiplier" and "exact" modes. To set a value, use the up and down arrow buttons to the right of the field, or enter the value using the keyboard. Click OK for the new settings to take effect.
