During the operation of storage media, certain malfunctions can often occur. This could be due to data corruption resulting from improper handling of the file system or the device itself. In many cases, a flash drive can be restored for further use using special utilities.
Instructions
Step 1
Try to format the USB flash drive using the system menu item. To do this, insert the storage medium into the USB port of your computer and wait for the storage medium to be detected in the system. Go to the "Start" - "Computer" menu and right-click on the name of the device. In the context menu that appears, select "Format".
Step 2
In the drop-down menu, select the type of file system (NTFS or FAT32) and uncheck the "Quick format" section. Click "Start" and wait for the end of the procedure. It should be noted that after formatting, all data on the media will be deleted.
Step 3
If changing the format does not resolve the problem with the drive, use low-level diagnostic utilities. Download the ChipGenius program and unpack it to any directory on your computer. Run the ChipGenius.exe file and wait for the scan to finish. In the list that appears, find the name of your device. The program window will display the parameters of the media and information about its manufacturer. Remember the values of the VID and PID items, which will be indicated in the utility text window.
Step 4
Run the ChipGenius.exe file and wait for the scan to finish. In the list that appears, find the name of your device. The program window will display the parameters of the media and information about its manufacturer. Remember the values of the VID and PID items, which will be indicated in the utility text window.
Step 5
Go to the website Flashboot.ru, which is a large database of various models of flash drives. Enter your VID and PID in the appropriate fields on the server, and then click Search. Download the program for recovering the file system of a flash drive obtained as a result of the search and unpack it.
Step 6
Run the resulting utility and carefully study the functions of the program. Each application has its own parameters and options. Select a formatting partition and follow the instructions on the screen to perform the recovery procedure. In most utilities, to start the recovery procedure, it will be enough to run a scan (Scan USB), and then click on the Start button. The recovery procedure is complete.
