The continuous increase in the number of downloaded and installed programs can lead to the appearance of system messages about the lack of space on the hard disk, because the capacity of the volume is limited. In this case, a reallocation of the capacity of the existing hard drives is required.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the main menu of the Windows Vista operating system to initiate the procedure for changing the capacity of the selected hard disks by clicking the "Start" button and invoke the context menu of the "Computer" item by right-clicking.
Step 2
Specify the "Manage" command and expand the "Storage Devices" node.
Step 3
Expand the Disk Management link and define the disks to reallocate in the dialog box that opens.
Step 4
Call the context menu of the volume to be shrunk by right-clicking and selecting the Shrink Volume command.
Step 5
Define the desired compression parameters in the opened dialog box and confirm the command execution by pressing the "Compress" button.

Wait for the operation to complete and make sure it is successful. An indicator is the appearance of a new section of unallocated space in the Computer Management dialog box.

Call the context menu of the disk to be expanded by clicking the right mouse button and select the Expand volume command.

Create the free space required to expand the capacity of the selected disk by deleting the available partition and enter the value of the desired capacity increase in the corresponding field of the "Change Partition Wizard" dialog box that opens.

Confirm the execution of the command by clicking Next and wait until the redistribution process is complete (for Windows Vista).

Download and install a specialized application for working with hard drives Acronis PartitionExpert (for Windows XP).

Specify the "Increase workspace" command in the opened window of the application wizard and define the section to be enlarged in a new dialog box.

Click the Next button and apply the check box to the field of the partition to be reduced in capacity in the next dialog box.
