Formatting a document consists in bringing it to a certain formatting standard. Very often, when designing text, you have to be guided by the specified standards, which relate to indents, spacing, font sizes and style, etc. As a rule, a ready-made, typed text is formatted. In other words, the order of document formatting is as follows: typing all the text in a user-friendly form, and then editing the formatting parameters.

Instructions
Step 1
In order to format the text, you must first select it. To do this, press the key combination Ctrl + A (Latin A) to select the entire text (this can be done through the menu "Edit" -> "Select All") or select a part of the text using the left mouse button pressed. An alternative option for selecting a part of the text: hold down the Shift key and move the cursor with the "right" and "left" arrows. The text following the cursor will be highlighted.
Step 2
Move on to formatting your document. On the toolbar, set the desired font style (often Times New Roman or Arial) and font size. Please note that if the font style is to be the same throughout the document, then the size of some parts may differ. For example, sometimes headings are made slightly larger than the main text.
Step 3
Align the text to the margins of the document. This can be done using the appropriate buttons on the toolbar or through the menu that opens by right-clicking on the selected text - "Paragraph". All text can be left-aligned, right-aligned (in very rare cases), and justified (most common). For heading alignment, the "Center" option is usually used.
Step 4
Right-click on the selected part of the text and select "Paragraph" from the menu. Set the parameters for basic indents, first line indent, line spacing, and before and after paragraph spacing. In addition, you can edit the indents using the grid above and to the right of the document, presented in the form of a centimeter scale. To do this, just move the sliders with the mouse.
