Firmware, or macros as they are also called, can make working with Excel spreadsheets much more convenient. But they can also be a source of danger. They can contain malicious code, and the built-in verification of the source of your macro will slow things down. You can get rid of these inconveniences. The description of the flowchart refers primarily to the versions of Excel 2003 and XP, but the new versions use the same principle.
Instructions
Step 1
Increase the security level in the program settings - this is the easiest way to get rid of checks and additional questions when starting MS Excel. To do this, start Excel by double-clicking on the shortcut on the desktop or in any other convenient way. If at the same time a window appears asking you to start or disable the macro, press any of the buttons and continue running.
Step 2
When the program window opens, in the menu that is located in the upper part of the window, select the "Service" item with the left mouse button. After that, a drop-down list will appear - in it, select the "Parameters" item with the left button. You will see various tabs - select the one that says "Security".
Step 3
Look at the bottom of this tab page for the button labeled "Macro Security". Click on it with the left mouse button. The macro launch parameters window will open, in which there are four switch positions: "very high", "high", "medium", "low". Each of these radio buttons indicates some degree of validation of all possible macros when Excel starts up on that computer.
Step 4
Select the "very high" position to disable the launch of all firmware that is not in a specially installed "safe storage". All other macros, regardless of their location and the presence of the signature of the creator, will be disabled.
Step 5
Select the "high" switch position to activate the enhanced security mode. This option is useful if you need to use macros from time to time. Unsigned macros will be disabled, and signed and trusted sources will run as usual. In most cases, this is the most convenient option to use.
Step 6
When you make your choice, click the "OK" button, then the parameters will be saved. Click OK again to close the settings window. Close Excel and start again - the problem is fixed.
