Sometimes a computer user needs to hide the contents of his computer files and folders. This is especially true if someone else uses the computer besides you. There are several simple ways to keep files secret from prying eyes.

Instructions

Step 1

Make the file hidden. To do this, find the required file in the file system of your computer. Click on it with the right mouse button. In the menu that opens, select "Properties". In the properties window find "General" and in the "Attributes" subsection check the "Hidden" option. Click Apply.

If you want to hide not a single file, but an entire folder, in the "Confirmation of attribute changes" window, select the checkbox "To this folder and to all subfolders and files".

After these actions, the selected file or folder will "disappear" from visibility, but only until the display of hidden files and folders is enabled on the computer.

Step 2

Put a password on the required file. To do this, use the WinRar archiver. Right click on the selected file and select "Add to archive". In the opened window of the archiver, go to the "Advanced" tab and click "Set password". In the window that appears, enter the selected password twice and click "OK".

If you try to enter the created archive without entering a password, you cannot open or unzip the folder.

Step 3

Close file sharing. To do this, go to the properties of the folder (Start → Control Panel → Folder Options). In the View tab, clear the Use Basic File Sharing (or Use Sharing Wizard) check box. Click Apply and OK.

Select the desired file or folder. Click on it with the right mouse button, in the drop-down window select "Properties", in them - the "Security" tab. Select the user or group you want to deny access to the file. Opposite the "Full Control" option, check the "Deny" option.

Now, when trying to open the file by those users who are denied access to the file, the message "Access is denied" will be displayed.
