Remote desktop control is a powerful built-in feature of the Windows operating system. With it, you can, while somewhere behind another computer, gain access to a Windows session. A person can be located almost anywhere in the world and, using the Internet, immediately get access to their files, network resources and applications.
Function activation
To use the remote desktop function, you must first activate it, as it is usually in a disabled state by default for security reasons. To do this, being under administrator rights, right-click on "My Computer", select "Properties". Then select "Remote access" ("Remote sessions") and check the "Remote desktop control" checkbox.
Providing access
Now you need to select the users who will be allowed to access control of the PC data. To do this, click the "Select users" button. By default, administrators can do this without additional permissions, so here you can leave everything as it is. Or those who wish can create a new account with a password through the control panel and add it to the list.
Checking the firewall
Next, you need to check the firewall. Here, remote control of the desktop must be included in the exceptions. If this condition is not met, then nothing will work. The firewall can be found by going to Control Panel.
Connection process
On the remote computer from which the connection will be made, press the "Start" button, then select "Programs" - "Accessories" - "Communication" - "Remote Desktop Connection". In the window that appears, in the "Computer" line, enter the computer name or its IP address. The computers must be on the same network, otherwise, under certain circumstances, nothing will work.
Before connecting, you need to contact the user in any way and warn him so that he has time to close all programs and save the documents. Otherwise, they may be lost, since when connected, the session on the target PC will be terminated. Next, you need to click the "Connect" button and agree that the user's session will be terminated. A password and login are entered, and then access to the remote desktop is performed.
Completion of work
After finishing work on the remote PC, it is imperative to end the session. Do not just turn off the remote control program, but end the session, since the computer is locked for the user for this period. To unlock in this case, you need to enter the password for the administrator account.
