Sometimes, to run a particular program, it is required to disable one or more processor cores. It is also used to check the stability of the rest. The problem is that if you have Windows XP installed, you may not be able to return the parameter back.
Necessary
- - disk with Windows Seven operating system;
- - skills of a confident PC user.
Instructions
Step 1
Make sure you have disabled the second processor core. To do this, start the Windows Task Manager by simultaneously pressing the Alt + Ctrl + Delete keys and in the window that opens, go to the computer speed tab. If the top graph is divided in half or into parts corresponding to the number of cores in your processor, then nothing has been disabled.
Step 2
If you disabled the processor core using a specially installed third-party program, try using it to enable it. At the same time, remember that if you have an operating Windows XP installed, it is almost impossible to turn on the second core with its help.
Step 3
Reinstall the operating system on Windows Seven. To do this, save all user data, logins, passwords, documents to removable media or to another hard drive. Start the computer from the drive, having previously inserted the disk with OS Windows Seven into it. Press Esc, set the floppy drive as the priority boot device.
Step 4
Perform the installation following the instructions of the setup menu item. You can either install the system instead of Windows XP or Vista, or install it as an additional operating system on your computer. When choosing the second option, it is not necessary to format your local drive. With this, all your custom files will be saved.
Step 5
After installing Windows Seven, the settings should have changed to standard, just in case, check it in BIOS. To do this, when loading the operating system, press the Delete key and go to the CPU section using the arrow keys. Find the parameter responsible for the operation of the processor cores and, if any have been disabled, enable them. You can also see this by opening the computer device manager.
