Step 1
Among the main advantages of the DrWeb anti-virus is its reliable operation and unobtrusiveness for the user - it reminds of itself only when it is really important. There are two ways to update the anti-virus databases: automatic and manual.
Step 2
To set up automatic updates, right-click the green Doctor Web icon in the system tray, select "Tools - Scheduler - Schedule", set the required update frequency. Now right-click again on the "Doctor Web" icon in the system tray, select "Updates". A window will open, in it select the "Settings" item and specify the path to the update server
The settings are complete. Press the start button in the same window, the current update will begin. All subsequent updates will occur automatically.
Step 3
In some cases, the user prefers to install updates manually - for example, once a week downloads and installs a file with a weekly update. This option cannot be called the most reliable, but in practice it turns out to be quite sufficient for an ordinary ordinary user. If you do not visit sites of questionable content and do not download untrustworthy software, the chance of catching a fresh virus is very small.
Step 4
For manual update in Windows XP, open the following sequentially: Documents and Settings - All Users - Application Data - Doctor Web - Bases. If you do not see the hidden Application Data folder open the menu "Tools - Folder Options - View" and select the option "Show hidden files and folders". We look at the file of the latest update - for example, this is the drw50094.vdb file. This means that you need to download all subsequent files with updates - drw50095.vdb, etc.
Step 5
The update files have been downloaded. All that remains is to copy them into the folder with the databases and unpack them. To do this, first you need to disable the self-defense of Doctor Web. Right-click the antivirus icon in the system tray, select "Disable Self-Defense". Enter the code that appears, self-defense will be disabled. Copy the new files to the database folder, unpack them. Then we turn on self-defense again - the databases are updated.
