Books, like people, do not get younger over the years. To keep a book in good condition, especially when it comes to any valuable copy, you need to clean it properly, protect it from excessive exposure to sunlight and moisture.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove dust from the book with a vacuum cleaner or dry cotton rag. If you decide to prefer the first method to clean the book, place it in a row with other books so that the strong draft of air does not ruin its pages. Vacuum gently.

Step 2

As a preventive measure, regularly, about once every two weeks, remove books from the shelves, wipe them. Then set aside and wipe the shelves with a damp cloth. Wait until the shelves are completely dry and only then return the books to their original place.

Step 3

Use an iron to remove grease from the pages of the book. This method is as follows. Take a thick layer of paper (a sheet of Whatman paper is suitable) and through it iron the page with old greasy stains with an iron. Then take some gasoline and magnesium. Mix them in equal proportions and gently wipe the stain. Then take a piece of cotton wool and remove any remaining liquid from the page. Wait for the page to dry out. This is the most proven and reliable way to get rid of old grease stains on any kind of paper.

Step 4

If there are small marks from drying with an iron, mix the baking soda with water so that you get a gruel. Cover it with a tan on the page. Wait until it dries completely. Blow off the remaining baking soda or brush away. The tan mark will be much less noticeable or disappear altogether.

Step 5

Use hydrogen peroxide to remove ink stains from the book. Mix a small amount of peroxide with a few drops of ammonia. Take cotton wool and gently wipe the page. The ink stains will disappear.
