Mdf is one of the most downloaded and used formats on the Internet today. Its main advantage is convenience: being both an archive and a disk image, this file type is extremely convenient when working with software and computer games.
Instructions
Step 1
You can download mdf from the Internet just like any other file. The most popular options are downloading from a file hosting service (without using third-party programs or using the Download Master) and downloading via a torrent tracker. In the second case, you will need to install the uTorrent program.
Step 2
Find the distribution with the file you need on the tracker and download the torrent to download. Open the file: it will automatically start using the previously installed program. Select a directory to save the file and start downloading. The advantage of this method is that in many cases it allows you to download the file much faster.
Step 3
Download and install a floppy drive emulator. There are a lot of such programs, and the choice of a specific one depends only on the final goals. You can use both Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools, as well as Nero or UltraISO. The latter is preferable to use on Windows 7, because it causes less system conflicts. After installing the emulator program, a new floppy drive should appear in the system.
Step 4
Click on the downloaded.mdf file with the right mouse button. The context menu should contain a line created by the installed program - "Mount disk image" or similar in content. By selecting this item, you automatically load the downloaded file into the virtual drive and you can work with its contents as with the contents of a DVD disc.
Step 5
If this line is not there, open My Computer. Right click on the newly appeared virtual disk. In the menu, select the item "Load disk / Emulate image" and in the opened explorer find the required file. Select it and click "Open": the mdf will be loaded into the drive.
Step 6
Often, together with a large mdf file, a small mds "appendage" weighing only a few kilobytes is downloaded. In such a situation, it is mds that will be the executable file and it is preferable to load it - it contains more specific information on working with the disk.
