A screensaver, or screen saver, is an animation that starts playing on a computer screen when the user does not perform any action for some time using an input device such as a keyboard, mouse, or touchpad. In the past, screensavers were needed to protect monitors from burn-in, but today they are used to customize the appearance of the operating system or for security.
