Sooner or later, any user will have to face the problem of formatting a hard drive. This procedure is needed in a number of cases. For example, after installing the operating system (if this was done for the first time), you should format all hard disk partitions (except the system one) to assign them a file system. Without a file system, the disk partition will simply be inaccessible.
It is necessary
a computer with Windows 7
Instructions
Step 1
The first way to format a hard drive in Windows 7 is as follows. You need to go to "Computer". If this icon is not on your desktop, you can access it through the Start menu. To call this menu, on the taskbar, left-click on the "Start" button. The line "Computer" will be in the right column. Click on this line with the left mouse button.
Step 2
Next, you will see that the window displays a list of all partitions on the hard drive. You can format it, and if the operating system was installed for the first time, then even all partitions (except for the system one) are extremely necessary. The Windows 7 system partition runs under the NTFS file system, and you should not touch it.
Step 3
Click on the hard disk partition with the right mouse button. A context menu will appear. From this menu select "Format". All you have to do is check the box next to "Quick, clear the table of contents." It may also be that this item will be checked automatically.
Step 4
Click on "Start". A window will appear notifying you that all data will be destroyed during the formatting process. Click OK. The formatting process begins. After a few seconds, the disk will be formatted.
Step 5
You can also format a hard disk partition using the command line. To do this, click "Start", then - "All Programs" and "Standard Programs". Then find the command line and launch it by double-clicking the left mouse button.
Step 6
At the command prompt, enter format D:. The letter D is just an example. Instead, you can enter any other drive letter (except for the system drive). After entering the command, press the Enter key. A dialog box will appear warning you about the deletion of information. Press Y. Wait a few seconds, then the hard drive will be formatted.
