There are many ways to format your computer's hard drive or specific partitions. In most cases, you can even do without installing additional programs. Unfortunately, some methods are only available with certain devices.
Necessary
- - Floppy drive;
- - floppy disk.
Instructions
Step 1
When working with relatively old computers, they often use Floppy disks to boot into DOS mode. Open the "My Computer" menu and find the icon of the installed Floppy drive. Insert any scratch diskette into it. Right-click on the icon and select "Format".
Step 2
Check the box next to "Create an MS-DOS boot disk" and click the "Start" button. After completing this process, your boot floppy will be ready to go.
Step 3
When it becomes necessary to format a hard disk partition, insert the floppy disk into the Floppy drive and turn on the computer. Open the BIOS menu by pressing the desired function key provided by the computer motherboard manufacturers. Select the Advanced Setup or Boot Options menu. Find the First Boot Device item and set the Floppy parameter for it. This is necessary to start the floppy disk before entering the operating system.
Step 4
Save your BIOS menu options and restart your computer. After a while, the program that was previously written to the floppy disk will start, and a command prompt window will appear on the screen. Enter the string format X: and press the Enter key. In this case, X is the letter of the disk partition that will be formatted. If you need to completely delete information from the hard drive, then run the format command several times, specifying all the partitions of the hard drive one by one.
