Step 1
Formatting a specific local disk is usually straightforward. The problem is that Windows cannot clean up the partition on which the operating system itself is installed. In such a situation, use special software.
Step 2
Connect your computer to the Internet and download a boot disk image containing Acronis Disk Director or Partition Manager. Prepare a blank CD or DVD.
Step 3
Download ISO File Burning. It allows you to quickly write an image to a disk, preserving all the properties of the original drive. You can also use the Nero Burning ROM application.
Step 4
Write the downloaded image to a disk drive. Restart your computer and run the program from the disk. Now select the connected hard drive with the left mouse button.
Step 5
Click the Format button. In the launched menu, select the parameters for the implementation of this process. Change the file system type if necessary.

Confirm the changes by clicking the "Run tasks" button. Wait until the procedure to format the hard disk is completed.
Step 7
In the event that you could not follow the described algorithm, use a second computer to format the hard drive. Turn off your PC. Remove the hard drive.

Install the hard drive into the system unit of another computer. If all slots of the motherboard are occupied, use an adapter that allows you to connect IDE (SATA) hard drives to the USB port.

Turn on your computer and wait for the OS to load. Then launch the "My Computer" menu. Format the desired hard disk using the functions of the operating system. If you need to fine-tune the hard drive settings, install the Partition Manager or Acronis applications running under Windows.
