When styling a table in Microsoft Office Excel, the user may need a line-freeze feature so that it always stays in the same place when scrolling. For this, the appropriate settings must be specified.
Instructions
Step 1
Launch MO Excel, create a new document, or open an existing one for editing. Select the line that will serve as a reference point by clicking with the left mouse button on its ordinal number, or simply place the cursor in the cell above which the fixed line will be located. Keep in mind that the selected row (or cell) itself will not be fixed. The area above the selection is anchored.
Step 2
After the line or cell-reference is marked, go to the "View" tab. On the toolbar, find the "Window" section and click the arrow button opposite the "Freeze Areas" thumbnail. A context menu will open, select the "Freeze Areas" command.
Step 3
Note that there are separate commands for the first row and the first column in the menu. If the line you want to freeze is the first, you can use the Freeze Top Row command. If in the future you need to return the document to its previous layout, open the View tab again and select the Unpin Areas command from the Freeze Regions context menu.
Step 4
To make the frozen line stand out in your document, you might want to change its color or customize the borders. This can be done in several ways. Select the pinned row and go to the Home tab. In the Font section, use the Fill Color and Border thumbnail buttons.
Step 5
Another option: select the desired range and click on the selection with the right mouse button. In the context menu, select Format Cells. A new dialog box will open. Navigate the Border and Fill tabs to adjust the options you want. To confirm the new settings, click the OK button at the bottom of the window.
