A standard sheet in an Excel workbook looks like a table, each row and each column of which has its own name or sequence number. If you accidentally skipped a line when entering data, there are several ways to remedy the situation.
Instructions
Step 1
Open a document for editing and position the cursor in the cell above which you want to insert a new line. Make active the "Home" tab on the toolbar and find the "Cells" section. Click on the "Insert" button. A new line will be added.
Step 2
You can also select several adjacent cells and click on the same "Insert" button. When doing this, keep in mind the following: if several cells in a row are selected, one new row will be added. If you select multiple contiguous cells on multiple lines, the same number of lines will be added as you selected. But if there are more selected cells vertically than horizontally, columns will be added instead of rows.
Step 3
In order not to be mistaken or confused when adding several blank lines, it is better to select the required number of cells vertically and click on the arrow-shaped button opposite the "Insert" button in the "Cells" section. The context menu will expand. Select the item "Insert Rows to Sheet" in it.
Step 4
There is also another way. Move the cursor to the left edge of the working area of the sheet, where the ordinal line numbers are located. Wait for the cursor to change to an arrow pointing to the right. Select one or several lines with the left mouse button.
Step 5
Right-click on the selected fragment and select "Paste" from the context menu. Just do not confuse it with the "Paste from Clipboard" command, there are no thumbnails in front of the menu item you need.
Step 6
If you created a table using the Table tool on the Insert tab, move the cursor no longer to the ordinal line numbers, but to the left edge of the table itself. Wait for the cursor to change its appearance.
Step 7
After that, right-click in the selected line and select the "Insert" item and the "Table Rows Above" sub-item in the drop-down menu.
