Creating animations in Photoshop is fun and exciting. It doesn't require any special skills, you just need to learn the basic principles of time-lapse animation. The Layers panel and the Animation panel will help you with this.

The graphics editor Photoshop allows you not only to process images, but also to create animation based on them. To do this, Photoshop has a special panel called “Animation” (in the case of Photoshop version CS6 it is called “Timeline”).

To start working on animation, create a new document and open the Animation panel. Switch to frame-by-frame animation mode - this can be done by selecting the appropriate option in the panel settings.

Animation in Photoshop

The principle of animation in Photoshop is that the program makes individual layers of a document visible or invisible. For example, to animate a ball moving from left to right, you will need to create several layers, on each of which the ball will be slightly shifted in the direction of its movement. Only one of these layers will be visible on each frame - so when the animation plays, it will appear to be moving.

To create the background for the animation, you need to create a new layer, which will be located below the rest of the layers. It should always be visible - so you need to select all the animation frames and click on the icon with the eye in the layers panel, this will make it visible on each frame. In contrast to the background, layers, which represent separate phases of an object's or character's animation, should only be visible in their own frame.

Working with individual frames

Individual animation frames can be edited - change the position of objects on them, increase or decrease the transparency of the layer, change the blending mode and styles.

An animation can contain an unlimited number of frames. A new frame can be added using the corresponding button in the "Animations" panel - it can be inserted before the current frame or after it. The display time of each frame is also configurable. You can choose one of the preset settings, or enter the time in seconds manually.

Animation can be played in several modes - infinite loop mode, played only once or a certain number of times. You can set the appropriate settings in the lower left corner of the animation panel.

Save the animation

After you add all the frames you want and edit them, you can preview how the animation will look. To do this, just click on the "Play" button. If everything suits you, you can save the animation.
