A computer connected to a microphone can be used for many purposes, from recording vocals to communicating in online games. After the microphone is connected to the PC, it needs to be configured.

It is necessary

  • a computer;
  • microphone;
  • novice PC user.

Instructions

Step 1

It is worth noting that microphones can be of different shapes: pop, in which karaoke is often sung, office (usually on a thin leg) and built into the case of laptops and netbooks. There are also microphones combined with headphones.

After connecting the microphone to the corresponding 3.5 mm jack on the PC case (if the microphone plug is wider, use an adapter), restart the computer. If your computer is stationary and represents a system unit, plug the microphone into the connector on the rear panel, even if the same connector is on the front of the system unit.

Step 2

After restarting your computer and starting Windows, go to Start - Control Panel, select small or large icons and double-click on the "Sound" shortcut.

In the window that opens, select the "Recording" tab. You will see the name of the microphone and a check mark - this means that the equipment has been installed successfully. Try speaking into the microphone. An ascending sound will appear on the equalizer next to it. If it doesn't, the microphone might be connected but turned on. Find the power button on the microphone and press it. Usually such a button is found on pop type microphones.

Step 3

Now let's move on to setting up the microphone on the computer. Select the microphone in the same place and click the "Properties" button. In the "Listen" tab, you can check the box. After that, all sound from the microphone will be instantly fed to the speakers.

In the "Levels" tab, you can adjust the microphone volume and sound gain using the sliders.

In the Enhancements tab, you can enable options such as Noise Reduction and Echo Cancellation. Please be aware that when speaking on Skype, these options may impair hearing.

In the "Advanced" tab, you can adjust the sound frequency if you are going to record something through a microphone on your computer.
