The Windows Update utility in Microsoft's operating system downloads update files to a separate system folder, which allows the user to save them if necessary when reinstalling Windows. This will avoid re-downloading packages and speed up system setup.

Step 1
The Windows operating system saves updates to the system directory on the hard drive C. To find this folder, go to the "Start" - "Computer" menu. In the list that appears, select "Local drive C:" - Windows. Find the SoftwareDistribution directory, and from there navigate to the Download folder.

The list of files that will be displayed in this directory is the update for the operating system. To copy them to a separate storage medium or another hard drive, select all the files with the left mouse button, and then right-click on them and select "Copy". Paste the received updates using the context menu "Paste" in the target folder.

The Download directory can also help if you encounter certain difficulties while installing updates. For example, if, when you turn on the computer, you see the update settings screen, and then a notification appears that the data package cannot be installed, in this case, you can delete all files from this directory to get rid of this error.
Step 4
Deleting files from the system's Donwload directory will also signal the Windows Update utility to re-download the updates. If you want to completely disable automatic downloading of new packages for the system, you need to use the appropriate setting.
Step 5
Click on "Start" - "Control Panel" - "System and Security". In the list of sections, select the "Windows Update" - "Turn on or off automatic updates" section. In the line "Important updates" select "Do not check for updates" and click "OK". Automatic downloading of updates will be completely disabled.

In the window for configuring these parameters, you can also set a schedule for downloading new service packs. To do this, set the item "Install updates automatically" and in the field below enter the time interval for which the downloaded updates should be downloaded.
