With the advent of more modern and advanced versions of the operating system, users may need to upgrade, for example, Windows Vista to Windows 7. This requires a licensed installation disk or a distribution kit downloaded from the Internet.
Instructions
Step 1
Decide which version of Windows you want to install. If your computer is running Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium, you can upgrade to Windows 7 Premium or 7 Ultimate. If you are using Windows Vista Business, you can upgrade to Windows 7 Professional or 7 Ultimate. If your computer is running Windows Vista Ultimate, you can only upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate. Purchase an eligible copy of Windows 7.
Step 2
Turn on your computer and connect to the internet. The Windows 7 Upgrade installer will use the Internet to get updates during the installation process. However, even if you do not have network access, the Windows 7 installation will work, but will ask you to download the correct updates when it finishes.
Step 3
Place the installation disc in your floppy drive or double-click on the installation executable file if you downloaded Windows 7 from the Internet. Prepare your Windows product license key. It is a 25-digit code and is indicated on the box with the licensed disc or in the text file attached to the installer.
Step 4
Click the Install Now button as soon as the installation file starts. If your computer is connected to the Internet, select Get Important Updates to Install. Review the information provided, select “I accept the terms in the license agreement,” and proceed to the next screen. Select Update as the installation type and then click Install. Do not turn off your computer during installation. It will run automatically, and upon completion, the computer will restart.
