Step 1
Launch Network Neighborhood or Network and Sharing Center (if using Windows 7). In the properties of the network connection, pay attention to the parameter of the same name. To open the properties of a network connection, right-click on the connection icon and select Properties. You can also go through the shortcut "My Computer". Next, on the left side of the window, find a tab called "Control Panel". In it, click on the "Network Neighborhood" shortcut.

For Windows 7, the properties of the TCP / IP protocol can also be viewed by clicking on the network shortcut and selecting the "Properties" item in the window that opens. If this parameter is set automatically by an external network device, then you need to run the command line utility. Each operating system has similar functions that allow command control.

Enter cmd into the Run window, or run the command line utility from the menu. Type the command ipconfig / all and press enter on your keyboard. Enter this command carefully, as incorrect combinations can harm your computer, as well as the entire operating system. All information about the current network settings will appear on the screen.

You can also find out the DNS name from the network administrator of your network section, or by reading the documentation on establishing a connection that was given to you at the provider's office. Such parameters will definitely be indicated in the instructions for setting up a network connection. The DNS name of a computer consists of all the domain names of the upstream part of the network structure. Therefore, do not be surprised if this parameter is not short. Top-level domain names are not numerous - there are about 250 of them. The rest of the names are formed on their basis.
