Reduced functionality mode, which uses only a minimal set of system programs that provide basic OS functions, is called "safe" in Microsoft's terminology. The need for it arises when you need to make a change in the system registry of any parameters that are essential for the functioning of Windows, replace system files, when installing some drivers, diagnosing malfunctions, fighting viruses, etc.

Step 1
Initiate the computer restart procedure. This can be done in the usual way - through the main menu on the "Start" button. However, if there is a need for safe mode, then it is likely that the system is operating in an abnormal mode and the main menu is not available. There is an alternative way that Windows Task Manager uses - press CTRL + alt="Image" + Delete, in the opened manager, open the "Shutdown" section and click "Restart".
Step 2
Wait until the procedure for saving the settings, shutting down the operating system and starting the BIOS. After checking the health of the hardware devices and initiating them, the BIOS will transfer control to the bootloader of the main operating system. At this point, you need to press the F8 key. If several operating systems are installed in the computer, then with the default settings, the bootloader pauses at this stage for twenty seconds. If there is no pause, then you can determine this moment by the appearance of an inscription inviting you to press the F8 key. And the most reliable way is to press this button several times starting from the moment when the NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock indicators on the keyboard blink.
Step 3
Select the desired safe mode option when the bootloader catches your signal and displays a menu with more than a dozen items. Limited functionality mode includes only three options - "Safe Mode", "Safe Mode with Network Drivers Loading" and "Safe Mode with Command Line Support". To select the desired one, use the arrow keys (the mouse driver has not yet been loaded at this stage), and then press Enter. This menu also provides options for refusing to boot in Safe Mode. For example, if you need a limited operation mode to fix any OS malfunction, try using the Last Known Good Configuration option first.
