It is rather frustrating to lose a text document, in which you have invested a lot of time and effort. Power surges, software glitch, or human error can all lead to this outcome. How can you recover a document?
Instructions
Step 1
Find backup copies of files that Word may have created. Click the Start button on your desktop, then select Search. Type *. WBK in the search box, press Enter and see the results of the files found.
Step 2
Use the autosave feature in Word. Open the File menu and select the Open option. Find the file that you want to restore in the folder that appears, and if you succeed, click on the "Open and Restore" button.
Step 3
Try looking for files that may have been left on your hard drive during autosave in a different location or in a different format. Click the Start button on your desktop and select Search. Type *. ASD in the search bar, press Enter and scroll down the list of found results.
Step 4
Find files that may have been saved as temporary. Use the "Start" menu and the "Search" function to search for documents with the mask *. TMP. This is the temporary file format that can be opened with an appropriate text editor program.
Step 5
Go to the "Trash" and see if there are any files that can be deleted by the system. To do this, on the desktop, click on the "Trash" icon. Select View and Arrange Icons. Select the By Date option to quickly find any files that may have been placed here in the next few days.
