To set up a simple local network between two computers, you need a network cable. If both PCs need to access the Internet, then it is recommended to use an additional network adapter.

Instructions
Step 1
Select a computer from which you will have direct access to the Internet. In this case, Windows Vista will be installed on this computer. Connect a second NIC to this PC. It will be required to connect two computers to a local network.
Step 2
Connect the computers with a network cable of the correct length. Turn on both PCs. This will be required to define a new local network. Start setting up your first Windows Vista computer. Create an internet connection. Configure it in the usual way without changing any parameters.
Step 3
Now open the properties of the newly created connection. Go to the "Access" tab. Find the item responsible for providing Internet access to other computers on the local network. Check the box next to it. In the next line, enter the required local network.
Step 4
Proceed to setting up a second network card that is connected to another computer. Open the properties of this network card. Highlight TCP / IPv4 Internet Protocol. Now check the box next to Use the following IP address. Set its value to 222.111.222.1. Save the settings for this computer.
Step 5
Proceed to setting up a second computer. Open the Start menu and go to the Network Connections menu. Open the item "Show all connections". Right-click on the local network icon formed by your computers. Select Properties.
Step 6
Now open the properties of the Internet Protocol TCP / IP. In Windows XP there is no division into v4 and v6 protocols. Activate the function responsible for manually entering the IP address. Set its value to 222.111.222.2. Now enter the other computer's IP address (222.111.222.1) in the Default Gateway field. Fill in the Preferred DNS Server field in the same way. Save your network settings.
