There are two ways to create a local area network between a computer and a laptop: using a cable connection or a wireless Wi-Fi network. Both of these methods have their pros and cons.
It is necessary
network cable, Wi-Fi adapter
Instructions
Step 1
Let's consider an example of creating a wired connection between a laptop and a computer. Purchase a network cable of the correct length. Connect with it the network cards of your computer and laptop.
Step 2
Turn on both devices and wait for a new local network to be detected. Open the settings for this network connection on your computer. Find the item "Internet Protocol TCP / IP" and open its properties. Enter an arbitrary IP address in the corresponding field. The only rule is that the numerical value of all segments should not exceed 255.
Step 3
Do the same in the laptop's LAN settings. When entering the IP address, replace the fourth item.
Step 4
In order to go to the computer files, working from a laptop, press the Win (start) and R buttons at the same time and enter / 50.50.50.1 in the field that appears, where the numbers represent the computer's IP address.
Step 5
If the cable connection option does not suit you, then purchase a Wi-Fi adapter. These devices connect to USB and PCI ports. The latter is located on the motherboard inside the system unit.
Step 6
Connect the adapter to your computer and install drivers for it. Open the Network and Sharing Center. Go to the "Manage Wireless Networks" menu. Click the Add button. Click on the "Create a computer-to-computer network" item. Click "Next".
Step 7
Specify the name of the future network, select the type of security, enter the password and check the box next to "Save this network settings". Click "Next".
Step 8
Now open the list of available wireless networks on your laptop. Connect to the network you recently created. Configure both devices as described in the second and third steps. To access the files of a neighboring device, follow the algorithm described in the fourth step.
