A typical day for a computer user begins with pressing the Power button on the system unit: the familiar sound of starting a computer, a splash screen with "windows" appears on the screen. But the start of work does not always go as usual: when you turn on the computer, service messages can notify you of a breakdown. In this case, most often users are faced with a hard drive malfunction.

Diagnostics of problems of reading the hard disk

Instructions

Step 1

The most common problem when working with operating systems of the Windows family is an error while reading the disc. When this problem occurs, the operating system simply won't load. The fact is that the system files on this hard drive are damaged. They can be replaced by using an MS-DOS boot diskette.

Step 2

This floppy disk can only be created on a computer with a working operating system. After creating it, turn on your computer and hold down the Delete key. In the Boot section, specify Floppy as the first boot source.

Step 3

Press F10 and select Y. If booting from a floppy disk, enter SYS C: to restore the system files that are required to boot your copy of Windows. If this command does not help, therefore, the disk partition table is damaged, use the DOS FDISK / MBR command to restore it.

Step 4

If the listed commands did not help you, and the data on the hard drive is expensive, contact a specialized workshop. Otherwise, you need to format the disk and re-create several partitions. To format the hard drive, enter the FORMAT C: / S command. Then run the FDISK command, which can be used to partition the disk into multiple partitions.

Step 5

After completing each operation, it is advisable to restart the computer in order to avoid other unpleasant situations that may lead to another breakdown or loss of data. After completing all operations on the hard disk, proceed with the installation of the operating system. Do not forget that in the BIOS settings you must change the value of the line in which the boot device is indicated.

Step 6

Press the Delete key and in the Boot section replace Floppy with CD-ROM.
