Removable media are usually used to transfer data from one computer to another: flash cards, disks, etc. However, there is often a need to transfer data directly from one laptop to another.
Instructions
Step 1
First, if both laptops have Internet access, then you can simply email files from one laptop and receive them on the other.
Step 2
There are many possibilities for connecting a laptop to the Internet: through a simple modem, mobile modem, mobile phone with GPRS function, dedicated line, wi-fi. However, this method of transferring files is not suitable if the file size is very large, and it is impossible or inconvenient to split it into small parts.
Step 3
In this case, the second method is suitable.
It consists in creating a local network consisting of two laptops.
Step 4
First you need to make sure that both laptops have built-in network cards, otherwise the creation of a local network will not be possible. If you do not have a network card, you can purchase one and integrate it if the design of the laptop allows it. A network cable with suitable connectors, usually USB connectors, is also required.
Step 5
With a network cable connected to both laptops, open Network Neighborhood, click Network Settings Wizard. If your operating system is Windows XP, in Network Neighborhood, click Set Home or Small Network.
Step 6
By following the intuitive instructions of the installation wizard, you can easily create a local network. When the icon of the second laptop appears in the "Network Neighborhood" folder, double-clicking on it, you will see the files available on the second laptop.
Step 7
In Explorer, highlight the files you want, click Copy, navigate to the desired folder on your laptop and click Paste. The selected files will be copied from one laptop to another.
