In some cases, when typing in any editor on a computer with the Windows Seven operating system installed, instead of the entered letters, you can see only the signs of “squares and hieroglyphs”. This issue is related to incorrect display of encoding.
Necessary
Operating system Windows Seven
Instructions
Step 1
The cause of this problem may be not only viruses and pirated software, but also errors in the work with the system, committed by the user himself. For example, some users often resort to configuring the system using the registry editor, but forget to make backups - hence the reasons for constant failures.
Step 2
If you deal with the problem to the end, you can avoid such an operation as reinstalling the operating system. To diagnose the reasons for the appearance of "hieroglyphs", you must run the registry editor. To do this, click the "Start" menu and select "Run". In the empty field of the running application, enter the command regedit or regedit.exe and click OK. Also, the application launch window is called by pressing the Win + R keyboard shortcut.
Step 3
In the main window of the program, go to the window for creating a backup copy of the registry, which was mentioned above. To do this, click the "File" menu and select the "Export" item. In the window that opens, it is recommended to use the entire registry reservation - check the box next to the corresponding item. Enter a name for the file, specify a location, and click Save.
Step 4
Then open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch on the left side of the main window. Open the following directories in sequence: System, CurrentControlSet, Control, Nls, CodePage. On the right side, find parameter 1252, double-click on it with the left mouse button and enter the value c_1251.nls instead of c_1252.nls. Click OK to close the current window.
Step 5
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following path C: WindowsSystem32. In this directory, delete the file C_1252. Create a copy of the C_1251 file and rename it C_1252.
Step 6
Now open the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel". In the window that opens, click on the "Regional and Language Standards" icon. Then go to the "Advanced" tab. Select the item "Russian" in the block "Current program language …". After restarting the operating system, this problem should disappear completely.
