By looking through the directories and files on your hard drive, you may find duplicate files. The consequence of their appearance is copying, but not moving any objects. It is recommended to use special utilities to automatically search for duplicate files.

Step 1
Duplicate files can exist on the hard drive without your knowledge. One way or another, you can check the fact of their presence using the free utility DupKiller. Go to the official website at the following link https://www.dupkiller.net and select the "Download" section in the top menu.
Step 2
On the downloaded page, you must select the version of the program and click on the "Download" link. Also on this page you will find several additional language packs that can also be copied to your computer. Installation of the program is standard and does not require advanced knowledge.
Step 3
By means of this program, you can specify file types and search locations for duplicate items. In the main application window, click the "Files and Folders" button. In the window that opens, you need to assign directories and sections to be scanned, as well as select file types. For example, you suspect there is a lot of repetitive music on your hard drive. In this case, go to the "Used files" block and put a checkmark in front of the ".mp3" item.
Step 4
An interesting feature of the program is the ability to search not only for duplicates by file size and full name, but also to compare the contents of files with similar names. For example, Sound_Stream.mp3 and Sou_Str.mp3 are files with the same content, but different bit rates. They will be added by the utility to the search results.
Step 5
Among the added catalogs in the search criteria, you have the opportunity to select excluded files that have duplicates, but do not require duplicate removal. The entire deletion procedure is also configurable - assign the automatic deletion option with placement in the "Trash" if you are sure that you will no longer need copies. As a last resort, you can always restore them from the above folder.
Step 6
To start checking the selected directories for duplicates, return to the main window and click the "Scan" button. After a while, the search results will appear, select the necessary files and click the Delete button.
