Step 1
The most important and most difficult thing is to find the reed seeds. The main rule is to look for thickets of reeds next to water, without it, it does not grow. It is easier to find this plant in warm biomes. If you're very lucky, you can find cane sprouts in chests in abandoned mines. Collect as much cane as possible, when the lower block is destroyed, the upper ones simply crumble. In fact, you only get one book out of three units of cane.
Step 2
You have two options - search all the surroundings in search of this plant, or grow it yourself. The latter is very easy to do. If your permanent home is near a river, you only need to plant all of the harvested reeds along the bank.
Step 3
If your home is far from water, you can make reed plantations wherever you like. The most practical way is to create a technical basement under the house, the more the better. Over time, it is possible to build automated farms of both reed and other crops there. Reeds can only be planted on a block of earth, sand, or grass if the block is adjacent to water. Dig several parallel trenches two squares apart. Plant a reed. Of course, you can also plant it on the surface.
Step 4
The reed grows rather slowly, reaching a maximum height of three blocks. To harvest the crop, it is enough to destroy the plants at the level of the second block so as not to repeat the planting process.
Step 5
Having accumulated a sufficient amount of cane, you can proceed to crafting paper. To do this, you will need a workbench and a multiple of three reeds. At a workbench, fill any horizontal row with reeds. From three units of this plant, you will receive three sheets of paper.
