Any computer user who has encountered computer games knows that the speed of a video card is never too much. For owners of initially not very powerful video cards, this statement is especially relevant. When there is no way to replace a graphics accelerator, you have to "overclock" it, that is, increase its speed above the nominal values.
Instructions
Step 1
In modern versions of AMD / ATI drivers, there is a special Overdrive tab that allows you to increase the speed of your graphics accelerator. Video cards of the Radeon 9200 series were released a long time ago and even at the time of release were not considered fast.
Step 2
Start Catalyst Control Center. To do this, right-click on the desktop, and select the line, usually the topmost one. When the settings window opens, click on Performance or Performance. The Overdrive submenu will open, and a warning will appear in the main window.
Step 3
Read the warning. The point is that overclocking is an operation that voids your warranty. And the manufacturer of the video card and drivers for it wants the user to clearly understand that his actions are associated with the risk of failure.
Step 4
Press the Accept or Accept button to activate the graphics card overclocking mode. A window with parameters will open. First, press Auto-tune to automatically select the frequency of the video chip and memory. Press the OK button to start tuning frequencies.
Step 5
Wait for the tests to finish, it will take a few minutes. In the process, remember the parameters that will appear opposite the inscriptions Core Clock and Memory Clock. If the computer freezes during the tests, you will know what the stable overclocking limit of your video card is. After restarting your computer, you can manually open the Overdrive tab and set the desired frequencies.
Step 6
Also pay attention to the GPU Temperature. Heating the video card above 70-75 degrees is highly undesirable.
Step 7
After completing the tests, the Catalyst video driver will automatically set the highest possible frequency for your video card. To apply overclocking, click Test Custom Clocks - this will run a short test and apply the new frequencies.
Step 8
Check overclocking by running a game. If the game works without artifacts and unexpected stops, leave it that way, the overclocking is successful. If there are problems with the performance of games, open the Overdrive tab and try setting lower memory and video chip frequencies. Look, it may take some time to accurately select the highest and stable frequency possible.
