Instructions

Step 1

If your system has two disks ready to install the OS, skip the next two steps. Otherwise, you need to create an additional partition on the hard disk to install the second operating system. This can be done using standard Windows tools.

Step 2

Select "Start" - "Control Panel" - "System and Security" - "Administrative Tools" - "Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions". Right-click on the disk and select "Shrink Volume", and then "Shrink". Right-click on the unallocated area that appears and select Create Simple Volume. Another virtual disk will now appear on the system. However, these possibilities are not always enough, especially considering the limitation on setting arbitrary size of partitions.

Step 3

Use one of the third-party hard drive software. Examples are Paragon Partition Manager and Acronis Disk Director. Run the application. Right click on the disk and select "Resize". In the window that appears, set the desired values for the size of the new partition and confirm the operation by clicking on the "OK" button. Right-click on the free space on the hard drive that appears and select "Create Partitions". Confirm with "OK". Next, select in the menu "Operations" - "Run", and then "Proceed".

Step 4

After that, you will need to restart your computer. After the reboot, the screen will display the progress of the new hard disk partition creation. At the end of this, the operating system will start. Along with this, a new local drive will be detected.

Step 5

Now you can start installing the operating system. Insert the CD and run the installer. At the beginning of the process, when you need to specify a partition for installation, select a virtual disk specially created for this purpose. Upon completion of the installation, you will have two operating systems on two disks.
