When using computer programs and surfing the Internet, temporary files appear automatically. They are created in the form of cache files and backups. After closing the program, they are usually deleted, but some of them accumulate on the hard disk.

Instructions

Step 1

Temporary files are saved in the Temp folder. They can usually be identified by the.tmp extension. After the programs are terminated, they are not always deleted, and therefore begin to accumulate on the hard disk. Temporary files are also created when browsing the Internet. This information speeds up the launch of frequently used web pages (this is convenient, but only if the computer has one user). With active use of the computer for a long time, the free space on the hard drive becomes less and less. Therefore, periodically clean the computer disks from temporary files.

Step 2

You can delete unnecessary files using the operating system tools. If you are using Windows, click Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup. Select drive C. The program will estimate the amount of space used by unnecessary files. Check the boxes next to "Temporary Internet Files", "Temporary Files", "Temporary WebClient Files", "Compress Old Files", "Recycle Bin" and click OK. You can delete the contents of these folders without harm to yourself.

Step 3

To manually clear the Temporary Internet Files and Temp folders, go to the C: Documents and Settings directory. In the folders of different accounts, go to Local Settings, where the Temp and Temporary Internet Files folders are located. Files from them can be deleted, as well as files from History. There are cookies in the Temporary Internet Files folder. They do not always need to be deleted, as they help you - they save your logins, passwords for quick access to web pages. There is another Temp folder in the C: Windows directory, if you want to clean it up too.

Step 4

There is also special software for cleaning your computer from unnecessary files, for example, the Ccleaner program. After launching this program, check the boxes next to the types of files that you want to delete and click the "Cleanup" button.
