If during the installation of the Linux operating system (one of its types) you did not specify the setting of the graphic mode, all the work on setting up the system and the work itself on the computer will be carried out through the command line. This is such an unusual black screen for Windows users. However, you can start the GUI manually.

Instructions

Step 1

In the Rad Hat Linux operating system, the graphical shell is launched using the xinit command entered into the console as the root superuser. If you do not know the password for this account, then, alas, you will have to work in the command line. If you have a password, then you can work in full mode, that is, with administrator rights.

Step 2

In the Ubuntu operating system of the Linux family, you can also activate the graphical shell from the command line. You will need superuser rights again to enter the command sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop. Enter commands carefully. In this operating system, almost all actions are performed using commands, so you will have to adapt to such actions.

Step 3

If the shell did not load, and the console generated a package error, update the system files. To do this, enter the command sudo apt-get update. After downloading the necessary packages (and this will take a lot of time, depending on the speed of the Internet), start the graphical interface with the sudo gdm start command. If you find it difficult to download a large amount of information, install the graphical shell package without additional extensions using the command sudo aptitude install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop or sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop.

Step 4

The modern graphical interface of operating systems of the Linux family is very well thought out and convenient. Each element is customizable to suit the tastes and wishes of the user. Check out the manuals to make these changes in the shell. Each operating system has its own graphical interface, and, as a rule, any operating system has many of its positive and negative sides.
