Turning on automatic updates for the Windows operating system (Windows Update) can significantly improve the security and performance of your computer. At the same time, standard OS tools allow you to fine-tune automatic updates in order to avoid possible system crashes and malfunctions during the download and installation of the updates themselves.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to the "All Programs" item to launch the automatic updates tool for the Windows operating system.
Step 2
Expand the Windows Update link on the left side of the application window and apply the check box next to "Include recommended updates on download, install, and update notification" in the "Recommended Updates" section.
Step 3
Click OK and confirm the application of the selected changes by entering the computer administrator password in the prompt window.
Step 4
Return to the main "Start" menu and go to the "Run" item to cancel the automatic restart of the computer after installing the downloaded updates.
Step 5
Enter gpedit.msc in the Open field and click OK to confirm the launch of the Group Policy Editor tool.
Step 6
Expand the Computer Configuration link and go to Administrative Templates.
Step 7
Select Windows Components and go to Windows Update.
Step 8
Double-click on the "Do not automatically restart for automatic update installations" field and click OK to confirm the selected changes are applied.
Step 9
Return to the Start menu to start support and other services required for Windows Update to function properly.
Step 10
Enter services.msc in the Search field and press Enter to confirm the command.
Step 11
Call the service menu of the following services by double-clicking:
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service;
- cryptography services;
- automatic update;
- the event log.
Next, click the "Start" button to put the services in a running state.
