It is worth clarifying right away that to change the icon of the file itself, it is not enough to have a set of icons. The image is changed by replacing the default program for this file type. How can I do that? Right click on the file and select Properties.

On the General tab, click the Edit button. In the window that opens, select a new default program and click the "OK" button. If the program you are looking for is not in the list, click the Browse button, specify the path to the executable file and click Open.

The above method has many inconveniences, so it is recommended to make a shortcut to the desired file and change the icon to the desired one. Before that, you need to find on the Internet and download to your computer any set of icons that meets your requirements in appearance.

Create a shortcut to the file. To do this, right-click on it and select "Create shortcut" in the context menu. Then, in the same way, open the shortcut menu and on the "Shortcut" tab, click the "Change icon" button.

In the window that opens, click the "Browse" button and specify the path to the icon file, then click the "Open" button and "OK" twice or press Enter.

In the same way, you can use the icons that are contained in almost any exe- or dll-file. Roughly speaking, icon files can be contained in one file; some sets are made according to this principle.

To restore the standard icons, you need to open the shell32.dll file, which is located at C: / WINDOWS / system32. In the Change Icon applet, click the Browse button and specify the path to the file. After opening it, select the icon and click the "OK" button twice (to view all the icons, use the slider at the bottom of the window).
