Windows 8.1 is an operating system that is a beta version of Windows 8. It was released on October 18, 2013. Microsoft was forced to create a new version due to the huge amount of criticism that has lined up on Windows 8.
First of all, it should be noted that the new version has returned the "Start" button, the absence of which was associated with most of the criticism. However, its capabilities are greatly reduced in comparison with previous versions of Windows. It is unlikely that this will be able to satisfy users, since it is not the presence of the button itself that is important, but access to its functionality.
The biggest changes were in the Metro interface, adapted for touch devices. Added two standard sizes of tiles, it became possible to change their sizes and group tiles. The possibilities of personalization have expanded. Several very interesting applications have been added, including: "Skype", "Alarm", "Cooking", "Health and Fitness", etc. Added the ability to automatically update applications.
New Internet Explorer 11 is installed on Windows 8.1, which, according to the developers, has an increased speed, which can be useful for weak computers and mobile devices. Also, the new IE 11 allows you to open multiple tabs side-by-side on the same screen. Their number depends on the set resolution.
The search function has been significantly changed and improved, and its integration with the Bing service has been made. Now, when searching, the user is given full information about the requested object, he does not need to make any additional movements.
Windows 8.1 provides a bootstrap option, after which the user goes directly to the classic desktop, bypassing Metro. There is now an easier way to complete the work - through the right click on the "Start" button. In addition, the new version has support for DirectX 11.2 and 3D printers.
As you can see, in Windows 8.1 there are many changes that distinguish it from Windows 8. Many of them are very important, greatly simplifying the work with the operating system. It seems strange why the developers didn't think to include all these features in the original version.
In this regard, when buying a laptop or computer with preinstalled Windows 8, it is recommended to immediately update it to Windows 8.1. You can do this through the Windows Store, an app located in Metro.
